Registered Nurse - Sierra Sunrise

Sierra Sunrise is an innovative, low-barrier, service enhanced emergency shelter serving Fresno County. Sierra Sunrise provides onsite mental health services, case management, peer support and housing navigation to support individuals who are experiencing homelessness.  

Position Summary 

The Registered Nurse will play a pivotal role in providing healthcare services to clients with behavioral health needs within a low barrier shelter setting. The RN will work with the Care Teams to assess client’s physical needs, provide medication management services, and psychoeducation regarding medications. Additionally, the RN will be responsible for supervising and guiding a team of Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Provide comprehensive and compassionate nursing care to clients with behavioral health needs.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for individuals with complex health conditions.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Supervise a team of Certified Nursing Assistants, providing guidance and support in delivering patient care.
  • Conduct regular training sessions to ensure CNAs are equipped to handle the unique needs of clients with behavioral health challenges.
  • Administer medications as prescribed and monitor clients for any adverse reactions.
  • Educate clients on the importance of medication adherence and provide necessary support.
  • Respond to behavioral health crises with a calm and composed demeanor.
  • Collaborate with mental health professionals to develop crisis intervention strategies.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all clients.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports on client health status and the effectiveness of interventions.


Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in CA.
  • Previous experience working with individuals with behavioral health needs.
